Abstract
Teacher Talk - Teacher Listen: Mediation and Affording Emergent Language in Language Classrooms
With the rise of AI, the new language classrooms are changing: The modernist dichotomy between ‘the teacher’ and ‘the learner’ has disappeared, and a more decentric approach to language learning sources and resources has been introduced. Mediation as a linguistic term, which has also been introduced to CEFR; is a term that is still being overlooked by the target language-centric curriculum models and syllabuses. Therefore, creating room for emergent language within the given curriculum has become a necessity more than ever. This webinar focuses on creating opportunities for mediation tasks in language classrooms where the binary between feedback and feed-in disappears, where the teacher becomes the learner, where ‘the teacher talk’ creates a harmony with ‘the teacher listen’, and finally where the pre-determined language can co-exist with the emergent linguistic needs. This session; therefore, aims to equip teachers with various methods to implement effective strategies to better enable them to accommodate such affordances in a more flexible manner in their classrooms and become more adaptive and responsive to the learners’ needs.
